The genesis of the ministry was organized as the Highway Christian Church of Christ on November 14th 1954 at 20th & Stewart Streets under the leadership of its founders, Elder Andrew James Ford, Sr. and his wife Elrita Ford. While establishing the work, the church transitioned to several locations. While residing on 13th Street for several years, the membership exceeded the seating capacity and the church moved again to their next location at 40th & Ogden Streets. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed this building but the Lord provided and in 1964, Elder Ford, Sr. and his congregation moved to 4128 W. Girard Avenue. After prayerful consideration, Elder Ford, Sr. joined with the Highway Church of Christ, Inc. and remained faithful and ultimately was consecrated to the Bishopric and assigned as the Overseer of the State of Pennsylvania. Bishop Ford, Sr.'s vision continued to manifest and again the need to relocate was apparent. Fervently seeking God for direction, on January 29, 1986, the way was made to secure a new place of worship at 4031-37 Germantown Avenue. Mother & Bishop Ford worked untiringly in kingdom building until God called them both home from labor to reward in 1991 and 1993 respectively. The mantel of ministry was passed and the next generation of ministry would come into fruition on September 18, 1993, when Minister Andrew James Ford, II was ordained Elder and installed Pastor. Shortly thereafter, the church was renamed in honor of its founders to Ford Memorial Tabernacle. Continuing the legacy, Pastor Ford, II envisioned a new move of ministry for the end time and in 1999 renamed the church Ford Memorial Temple and established Next Generation Fellowship Ministries. On March 25, 2000, Pastor Ford, II was consecrated to the office of the Bishopric and presiding prelate of the Next Generation Fellowship Ministries, Inc. Bishop’s mandate for this organized fellowship is “Bridging The Gap” by repairing the breach between the old and young and preparing the “Next Generation” of pastors, leaders and ministries for their end time kingdom assignment.
